Dirt Rally 2.0

Are you ready to rise to the challenge? Dirt Rally 2.0 is a game that is all about using your instincts when carving your way through the abundance of iconic tracks. Due to the nature of the road ahead of you, any mistake that you make, could be the difference between nailing that new track record or nailing your car and ultimately ending your stage. Dirt Rally 2.0 forces you to rely on your instincts, there aren’t any gimmicks to save you from a stage ending mistake, there are no sneaky power ups or the likes, its just you and what lies ahead. If you’re not paying attention and preparing for quick reactions to the environment around you, then you are asking for trouble. There are various factors that come into play that not only affect you, but the road you’re on, such as stage degradation and track surface evolution. Which makes it even more vital that you are on your toes as you navigate the roads ahead.

The Announcement Trailer

As I’ve been getting my hands on more racing games I find myself more and more fascinated by the attention to detail that goes into these games. Whether its the tracks, historic and modern cars or even just the way your vehicle handles via the tuning you can do that allows you to ensure your vehicles adhere to your own driving style. You can easily tell that a lot of love has went into this game. The cars, tracks and well the game overall is visually presented very well and is a joy to look at, although I’m not meant to, I can feel myself gazing into the distance of the environments around me, which has resulted in some… minor crashes.

It goes without saying that fans of the series are in for a treat, this entry to the series does not disappoint and it provides a very intense off-road simulation experience overall throughout the game. The game sports over fifty iconic off-road cars, giving you a great variety to test when you tear through the games six real life rally locations. Along with the tuning to the vehicle handling, surface handling and environments, the game offers a pretty impressive package. Dirt Rally 2.0 has taken what was already an impressive foundation and standard that had been set by prior titles and improved on it, producing an excellent rally simulation game. If you’re curious about the game, don’t let the amount of in game customisation options put you off, as sometimes these things can be overwhelming to newcomers. Personally I feel that this is something to be embraced and over time these options will not only become more manageable, but vital in order for you to finish a stage efficiently and elegantly.

I played the game for the Xbox One X, so unfortunately I won’t be able to indulge on any VR modes if/when they get released, although it is rather tempting to purchase it solely for that alone. I’ve only recently got on board with VR, but almost every game I’ve played thus far on it (PSVR) has been a blast and sets a new standard for gaming. With the right accessories, I can only see what is the best Rally simulator around as of now, VR would only improve on the experience.

I Give This Game A

8 / 10

As always with these types of games, they are great to pick up and play, but the real enjoyment comes from mastering the game and becoming more efficient at handling what it throws at you. There is an abundance of content beneath the surface of this game, so there is plenty content there to help scratch that itch for all those Rally fanatics out there. Dirt Rally 2.0 doesn’t hold your hand for the journey and it expects you to learn and become a skillful driver. It’s a game that constantly puts your skills to the test and rightly so, Dirt Rally 2.0 isn’t about hammering it down the route ahead, it’s about forming a strategic approach to each course you are challenged with. The ultimate goal being that each course that posed a challenge before, becomes a cake walk to those who put the time and effort in. I for one thoroughly enjoyed the game and cannot wait to see what else is in store for me down the line.
